| Bathroom accessories by the Hallenscheid & McDonald or HALL - MACK Company of Los Angeles were very popular in the 1940's 1950's and 1960's. Started in the early 1920s, the company was headquartered on Washington Boulevard west of where the Harbor Freeway (110 Freeway) crosses Washington now. The company has been out of business for years now, but many of their unique 1950s designs are still popular. The company was famous for "concealed" accessories that were hidden inside the wall, and accessed by lifting a cover, or pulling a knob or swinging open a door. Most of the holders had a plastic insert piece to hold the soap. Perhaps the most interesting piece was the "Concealed Lavatory Unit" which was a combination toothbrush holder, cup holder and soap holder. The holders were all mounted on the back of a revolving panel that rotated open for use, and back to conceal. Another great item was the Tow'lescope, a towel bar that hid inside the wall until you pulled the knob to expose it. Fascinating idea.
